Yes, it is a shame as that is a method many enjoy. manual lenses.

However, as I mentioned, the G5 in manual mode does display a "light meter" at the bottom of the screen, and considering that it would be typical to use f11 or f8 for close ups, and you can take a rough guess for ISO, based on the light and results you want, for most shots, that only leaves the shutter speed to adjust to centre the light meter.

Of course if that doesn't work, then you would need to think about aperture and/or ISO, but it does give a good starting point and make the process simpler to have fun with manual lenses.
