The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The A7C doesn't use a stacked sensor so I don't think you can use it in the electronic shutter mode without compromise the way you can mostly with a stacked sensor.

I find I don't change lenses when I'm out and about just generally shooting. I was trying to carry the 28-200m and the 100-400mm to cover a decent amount of range but what I kept finding is I wouldn't have the right lens on when I wanted so I'd switch then wish I'd have the other lens on etc...

4:3 vs 3:2 aspect ratio and field of view.

It's not that crazy and it's possible to partially achieve with an oversized sensor, Panasonic had this on their GH1 and GH2 m4/3 bodies (and some others like their LX3 series) which allowed you to choose between 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 without changing the focal length. From what I remember they...

    Nikon D750 & D780

Welcome to the forum and what camera are you thinking of upgrading from? My situation is unusual because I have the very capable Z8 and I've had a D750 since launch, the problem I've had is that the Z8 doesn't work properly with the flash (mirrorless cameras can't use the AF assist light so...

Accessing a HDD on another laptop

I would double check the drive you have because from the picture it looks like it has two 'holes' in it rather than one which means it's an M2 SATA drive not an NVME drive and that enclosure you've linked to says it doesn't work with sata drives. This page shows NVME and SATA drives...

I'm pretty sure that's an A-mount lens so it wouldn't work on a Sony mirrorless camera without an adapter, the Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro DG DN Art Lens is Sigma's only native 105mm F2.8 lens in FE-mount. You can see a list of Sigma E-mount lenses here...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I can't see it being an issue. I've run cameras for 10-12 hours in timelapse mode and recorded video for three to four hours without issue, in your case the fact the camera will be mostly idling means I wouldn't expect it to do any harm. I'm sure I've had cameras on for an hour or more when...

Are the raws you're working with using any kind of compression?

    Nikon Z* mirrorless

Same, I have a couple of Lenovo 65w USB-C chargers dotted around the house which I use for the camera, phone, laptop, tablet etc., it's extremely convenient these days that bar a few micro USB devices I mostly only need USB-C to charge items. My brother was needing a macro lens and the only one...

Good Value Nikon F lens - what's yours?

This is maybe the best place to ask, what's the best option for a 600mmish lens to use on the Z8? I have a Tamron 150-600mm G1 I think it is in F-mount it's one of the few lenses that doesn't work with the FTZ adapter. I wasn't a huge fan of the lens as I don't need that focal length often and...

Good Value Nikon F lens - what's yours?

I definitely agree on the F-mount lenses being bargains and one of the main reasons I bought a Z8 camera to be able to use my older Nikon lenses. The 70-200mm 2.8 mk1 is the one I'm enjoying the most and think I paid £1800 or so for it way back in 2009 but I think it's just around £300 now, I...

It's not so much low light more just shall we saw 'Scottish light', I wasn't really using my standard zooms much out the back in winter because to get the shutter speed I wanted for motion shots the iso was just going super high so the wider F2.8 aperture helps. I don't know if it matters so...

The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I guess it just depends on your use case. I've been using slower zooms for the last few years and find at times they can be limiting because the iso is just going too high so I have to compromise on the shutter speed, I've been able to go back to the 24-70/70-200mm F2.8 lenses which have been a...
