Not an F1 fan BUT #5 with the sparks 'outstanding'!! others are all really terrific pans but that one just has the edge.

Great shots. are these all from the general admission zones or did you have better access? I'm considering going next year and would like to know whats possible from the public viewing.

Thanks

Thanks, all from general access. All but shots 2 and 5 were taken through the catch fencing either between Stowe and Vale, or between chapel and the last corner of Becketts. 2 and 5 were taken over the fence from the Chapel grandstand (roving ticket on Friday).

Great shots, Toby. I'd like to get there next year myself. What lens were using for these?
Thanks. I used the 70-200mm f2.8 and 100-400mm, the latter sometimes with 1.4x TC. Full EXIF should be available on Flickr (y)

Excellent shots, especially from the general area. Well done and thanks for sharing.

You have done a great job with these, Silverstone is unforgiving for the spectator and with the crowds at the F1, I imagine it’s even tougher - well done
Thanks very much. I think dehaze in Lightroom helps with shots taken through catch fencing to get that contrast back that you lose.

Thank you.

Wow, those are awesome shots. Love them.

What I like most is the fact you used 1/160 of a second. I've recently joined a "motorsports photography" group on facebook and its like everyone things every bl**dy shot has to be taken at 1/15s and its getting a bit boring.... The slightly higher speed captures the motion but also keeps a sense of context with the well framed background (which is hard to do at silverstone)

Thanks, I think I’ve joined the same FB group recently and it does seem like shooting under 1/20 is the holy grail

Don’t get me wrong I do that sometimes, and for certain shots I really like it, but I also like to see context as you say. I’ve been to the WSBK today (I’ll get some shots up this week) and I have shots ranging from 1/20 - 1/1000. Whilst the shots at 1/20 are better from a technical difficulty point of view I think they’re a bit ‘meh’ and could have just been shot anywhere.

My favourites are at Coppice and the Esses (where shutter speeds were higher), and Toprak’s stoppie

I agree. Here are some of mine from yesterday -> just to point you to me on the same group

FYI the hairpin shots were at 1/60- 1/30 so that low doesn't mean you have to loose the background!

I jumped upto 1/60 when the top boys came through as I didn't want to miss them. Needed to get them for clients!

They're great, well taken and nice processing (y)
