Camera Raw Masking - help wanted

Hi - I am using Camera Raw 16.3 and there are various masking operations available

Namely, Background, Sky and Main Image as well as others including Brush

Where I am having problems is when I want to use a second mask on an image - for an example I have used Brush to raise some of the shadows, then I select Add Mask and try something else, perhaps Brush again to darken some areas of an image

All that seems to happen is my original mask gets amended and I cannot see what I am doing wrong

Can anyone help

"Add" and "Subtract" are edits to the existing mask selected. Select "Create New Mask" at the top of the masks panel to create additional masks.
