Advice for cropping

Hi all, I only have a maximum of 150mm reach availble (Using Olympus M43) so I often need to crop quite heavily to get smaller birds to a decent size in the image. Should I just crop, is it it worth using the in camera tele-converter (Olympus Em1 mk1) I have read that using the teleconverter is just like cropping ??, is this true or does one way have an advantage over the other ??.
Here is an example of what I mean, first the original image taken at 150mm, then the crop, I should also mention that getting closer to the subject in this case is not an option, these are taken fron my patio doors about 20 feet from the birds at the end of the garden, trying to get closer just makes them fly off lol (the effect of seeing my ugly mug).

I think in camera tele is what we used to call "digital zoom" and if it is it's just in camera cropping. If that is the case I think I'd rather just crop on the pc as if you do it in camera you are stuck with it but if you do it on the pc you can move the crop around, if you like, to get slightly different framing or you could if you want keep the whole frame and the crop which may not be possible if you've done it in camera.

They are the same thing, better to crop yourself, then you can make other adjustments at the same time (like rotating :) )
Noticed that after the edit lol. Must do better and learn to focus properly lol. :headbang:

IDK enough about your camera to say for sure, but with a lot of mirrorless cameras having the subject larger in the viewfinder can help with subject recognition/tracking/focus. E.g. in your example it appears the focus is a bit in front... it might have been better with the digital zoom/crop.
