Affinity Photo - V1 vs V2. Worth it?

Yes
I have been procrastinating over paying for the upgrade price as rarely use Affinity as DXO deals with most of my issues - and now I need it trying to decide if the upgrade is actually worth it. Wondering if any one else was in the same position and pulled the trigger and went for it. Is there an improvement worth paying for?

I see that there is an offer on for the next two days and that really isn't going to be enough time to evaluate properly so grateful for your thoughts to possibly take advantage.

Like you I have V1 secondary to DXO Photolabs - I don't see anything in V2 that I need. :)

The biggest gain is non destructive RAW editing. Layout changes are good.

Me neither but probably due to me not using it too much. I need to spend more time with it before I spend more money. This version probably does what I need.

I saw this and the video above thanks. In my current dilemma I have done as much RAW editing in DXO and will move it over to Affinity for other stuff. I am seriously considering buying a subscription to Photoshop though.

I am sure that in many ways that it is now superior to Photoshop and lightroom. EspeeciallyIn the way it is non destructive and fully reversible. The new features while very impressive are technically overkill for my usage, and to be honest my capabilities to use them.
I have the full set of version one, but am unlikely to get version 2 any time soon.
They have advanced so far that I think it might be sensible for them to offer a standard and advanced versions. With an open upgrade path for professional or more technically inclined users.

The only things that might change my mind would be if they incorporated a Digital library. And added the ability to process groups of raw files at the same time as Adobe raw processor can.

I agree entirely with the sentiment here and grateful for your thoughts - it is only when you want to do something and you see that something is easier elsewhere. I *used* to be okay with Photoshop and really quite good with Aperture (I still mourn the demise of Aperture). I generally use DXO PL6 and ingest with Photo Mechanic but would now prefer a better DAM and Photoshop Elements without all the social media crap. It seems software is like camera bags. No one is a single solution.

I still use Windows 7 for use with Affinity Photo v1. v2 needs Windows 10 minimum so I won't be upgrading. I use Linux Mint for some other stuff.

Same here for my editing machine, I did look at v2 on my laptop (W11)
But I couldn't see any real advantage.
So that's a no anyway

At half price, OK, otherwise stick with V1, I have both and rarely see any difference

I did upgrade to version 2 of Affinity when it was on offer , probably didn’t need the upgrade but figured as I use Affinity for all my work along with DXO I may as well as it wasn’t that expensive

im used to photoshop. And just got affinity v2, my first impressions are that, it not as easy as ps , but that is most likely me not knowing it very well yet.
the price is attractive and what it offers in features.it can’t be faulted in this department, I think that affinity is developing but I don’t think it will ever be a direct replacement for ps
but this said , the adobe products most poeple only use a small percentage of the features of the programs. Afinity will never re-place adobe in the professional side. But is reasonably prices for most people

@steve_lyt. With your help I am able to achieve what I needed with a mix of DXO and Affinity v1 but suspect life would have been easier with Photoshop logic.

The trouble is that as I get older I find ways of achieving an objective whereas I should take the time to learn the new logic and be able to inventively apply it. I was pretty good with Photoshop years ago but started not to use it as much and fell out with Lightroom and never took up the subscription model.

I am able to achieve most of what I need in DXO and had but rarely use Affinity Photo and Publisher. I think if, like you, I still had PS I really wouldn’t bother with Affinity.

It's very similar, but certainly not as intuitive.
But I wonder if I had learned Affinity before CS5, if my opinions would be reversed ?

A one-off payment of 60 quid, is very tempting compared to adobe prices.

( I have CS5 & Affinity v1 )

One of the advantages of Affinity over photoshop is that it uses a common structure, logic and code that works seamlessly between photo, publisher and designer.

At this stage it can already do many things that photoshop can not. and there are only a few areas where photoshop is leading. Photoshop seems to be moving in the direction of AI, which is largely outside the control of the user, and presents "take it or leave it" solutions. Rather than the controlled input of the user.

However I have used Photoshop since the earliest days and I have the familiarity of long use, that means I am unlikely to work through the long learning curve necessary to change to something else.

if you use adobe creative suite , then this does everything that affinity does and more , but at a premium price, but if you have the budget then adobe is the better choice although the suite is may not be as intuitive to use
im ued to photoshop , and i am unlikely to change,

affinity has a good point in that you can get it for iPad and pc for a good price.
