It's been a long time since I shot motorsport at Croft. In fact about 10 years ago when I was a Canon 7D shooter.

I now have a Nikon Z8 and access to the 180-600 Nikon Z lens.

Back in the day I used a single focus point, continuous autofocus, F8 and I think adjusted the ISO to get the shutter speed equivalent to the focal length.

So can anyone advise me what I should set up with the Z8. I assume F8, AFC, auto iso and shutter speed depending on focal length. However nit sure which autofocus mode to use?

I don't understand why you are shooting at f8. Personally I would just stick the camera in Shutter Priority as shutter speed is the most important factor.

Have you tried vehicle subject focusing with 3d tracking assigned to a button, so you can switch between them?

I assume it was to get all the car in focus

If f/8 is the lens's sweet spot and you want/need a specific shutter speed for panning or freezing motion, use auto ISO!
