at least the bird stood still!!

feel free to edit the image ....... but you would really need the NEF

highlights down = reducing the whites = a grey white = not representative

if anything the whites need to be brighter, but then you loose any feather detail

Here's my 2c worth

Trial Edit.jpg

Not edited, but copy imported to Nik Silver Fx. Structure and Fine structure dialled up (to about 30 each). Brought back to Ps, then Blend Mode changed to Luminosity, and dialled back to about 70% Opacity.

Tough to play with compressed jpg but here goes. Not trying to make a wall hanger, just investigating possible workflows using Luminar Neo.

MASKED BIRD
Reduce contrast
Boost highlights
Increase shadows
Reduce blue saturation
Reduce blue luminance
Slight increase in small details, larger amount medium details
Increase highlight contrast brightness a bit fairly far down into the midrange zone
Increase midtone contrast brightness a bit
Decrease shadow contrast (darken) a fair amount

MASKED BACKGROUND
Decrease highlight contrast a fair amount
Decrease midtones a fair amount and deeper into the shadow range
