Anticipation and defeat

I can see what you are getting at with the title but feel it would have had more impact if the two surfers were passing by each other much closer, more like they were buddies in surfing and had exchanged a few words as they passed.

Otherwise an unremarkable image...............though I wonder if PP'ed to improve the DR and and perhaps a grad 'filter' in the sky to lift the clouds contrast???
 
Thanks for commenting. I'd kept the image relatively simple in terms of processing because the crushed look of the guy walking back in was the sole reason for the image, and hoofing it up to make a more striking image would have taken away from him. Maybe I should try re-working & a fresh crop to focus in more tightly to him?
 
I think the problem is that to the untrained eye (ie of someone who doesn't see much surfing) he doesn't look particularly 'crushed'. He just looks like he's walking dragging a surfboard. And the guy going out blends too much with the background to really stand out, so doesn't show any obvious 'anticipation'.
