Aphid "mummy"

This is an Aphid "mummy", the cuticle that is
left behind after a parasitoid wasp has developed inside it. The larve has burrowed
out beneath and formed a cocoon which looks a bit like a pedestal/platform. The structure of cocoon shows the wasp to
belong to the genus Praon or possibly
Dyscritulus. This information was provided
by and with thanks to Professor Jim Hardie
of the Royal Entomological Society. The
photograph I bear full responsibility for..
