Balcony Film Lab (London) - Missing Scans

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get some advice on a frustrating situation. I dropped off 2 rolls of film for processing and scanning at Balcony film studios, over a month ago. I haven't received any updates on their status, and I've been unable to reach the lab to get any information. In addition to this I am a paying subscriber, but have received none of the promised benefits.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Phoning: The phone number listed seems to be disconnected.
  • Emailing: I haven't received any response to my emails since the initial one with instructions for dropping off the film into the studios black box.
  • Visiting: I've tried calling into the lab directly during their regular working hours, but haven't been able to get through via buzzer/ knocking on studio door
  • Contact via instagram message has been left unread.
I'm concerned about the film rolls and would really like to get them back, scanned or unscanned as they have sentimental value.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with Balcony?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get in touch with them or retrieve my film?

I'm also having exactly the same issue with Balcony. I've done exactly the same things you have and I've even been to the lab, but no one ever answers the door.

For a period I was in contact with the owner Rashid, he said he was going to send me a WeTransfer link, but that never came. He has since stopped replying to my messages.

He was always giving me the same excuses such as:
"The email system isn't working"
"Your Dropbox was full" *when it wasn't

This isn't the first time this has happened and I've probably had to wait at least a month for scans. This time around it's been 2 months...!

I'm also a paid subscriber and feel like a complete mug... Looks like we got sucked in by their manifesto and promise of “Dependable film processes coupled with the highest level of service to our patrons.”

The reviews on Trust Pilot are saying similar things...

Not sure really what to do either but I don't think we're the only ones!
