Here are some shots from a macro safari in the garden yesterday of some Barkflies that were on our Fatsia Japonica
All taken one hand holding the camera the other holding the leaf all taken about 1.5:1 withmy Raynox DCR250 on my Zuiko 60mm f2.8 and STF-8 flash

This one is about 1mm long I think

Tricky subjects, very small, and one-handed too. Well done Alf. I like the second image best.

Nicely done with the exposure. I find the light central spine of our fatsia's leaves very easy to blow out. And if the leaves on yours move around as much as the leaves on ours, then even better done!

Thanks Nick
The leaves do move hence one hand holding the leaf to position the bark fly in shot

Good images of these tiny little flies.

Thanks Paul

This is the info I have had on Flickr from Ian Beddison

Almost certainly Chilenocaecilius ornatipennis, a quite recent arrival in the British Isles (2015) from Chile / Argentina. The nymphs in your other photos appear to be the same species, the reddish-brown stripe on the 'neck' and extending between the eyes and antennae is characteristic (along with wing venation, etc.
