That's a good set of macro/close up style captures David.
 
The Eristalis is not tenax. You can clearly see that the hind tibia is partially yellow - E. tenax has a completely dark hind tibia. From the general shape it is possibly E. pertinax and that is supported by the front tarsus you can just see peeping out below the eye on the right - this looks pale, but you cannot see enough to be sure. Consequently, you cannot really tell which species it is - apart from ruling out tenax!
