Best way to clean old lenses?

Simple question folks, whats the best method for cleaning old neglected lenses?

I was thinking IPA and cotton swabs to start with?

Careful about the really old RF lenses, they have a soft coating and easily come off. Offcourse, you may be after the soft 40s looks, in which case....

They are zeiss teaser lenses from an old 1956 contaflex

They are coated.... Hmmm

Gas...I think ( not sure) that by mid 50s, Zeiss was doing some sort of hard coating ( at least not the soft single coating of the early post war Contax Lens. But even so, I would be very careful about cleaning these, usless they are really realy dirty.

I know of a guy who used to repair cameras, I could ask him if you want.
