Thanks Alf, first one I've seen, for the second shot I turned down the ring flash to -1 ev, I still think it could have been lower.
Since I started using Manual Mode at F11, iso100, 1/200th with the flash at around -1/3rd to -1 ev, I've had a far greater keeper rate than I ever did using other settings. These were taken using the Canon 100mm Macro + Canon EP25 Ext Tube with ring flash. The only downside is you need to get bloody close - usually 15-20cm, both were taken handheld.
