I managed to crawl pretty close to some Cormorants and Shags yesterday morning. They're usually very wary birds so it was slow progress getting there, but they seemed relaxed and were happy to dry their wings and projectile poop while I watched..

That 1st shot would really help people sort the ID issue between these two species - excellent set!

I like the one of him/her having a squirt, thats harder to do than it looks...
 
brilliant set John, No5 with the reptilian look is amazing.
Cant wait for May to get up to Shetland
 
Many thanks all:) The first shot does exaggerate the size difference a bit, but the Cormorant is a good 10% bigger/heavier in the body and the bill is less slender. I find a lot of the images on Google that are meant to be Cormorants, are actually Shags - makes ID a bit confusing! :D
