Sadly not that different from other parts of the UK. We don't have great variation here as most know

They might be Aquarius paladum. Abdominal spines at the back end of the male, the yellowish stripe on the pronotum and their large size.

That's a good set of pictures David. The first is very interesting as I don't think I've seen many if any pictures like that here recently. Well spotted and captured for them all :D

Thank you. Pond skaters are not too difficult if you can find them in a good place. Hopefully the drought will not affect their numbers.

Great set.
Pond skaters have always fascinated me, amazing how you can actually see the invisible surface dipping with their weight, but not breaking. One of the most underrated wonders of nature in my opinion.
