I heard a cuckoo calling this morning.

Is it likely to be still calling for a mate?

I thought they started leaving about now.

There's one...or was one... at Slimbridge which has been there a while, It was the first one I've seen but it sits in a tree quite a way from the hide I was in. That was three weks ago and there's been no mention of it in the 'latest sightings' bulletin and as it's the end of June..almost,it's probably left the UK. Yours must be a straggler.
