Cwmorthin

It is still there then. I took a similar shot a few years ago but it was raining. It still looks interesting even in the rain. Camera club judges will have seen this many times and can usually estimate when the shot was taken by the number of chimneys. From your shot there appears to be only one now but there were two in 2012 when I was there. In the 1970's there were four.

Hi Dave, After some remedial work to the building hopefully the last remaining chimney will be there for a few years to come. I only wish they could do the same for Rhosydd.

That is good news.

I like this a lot. The composition works well, with the zig zag shape up the path, then left up to the building, and then the line of the building itself. It feels like it could do with a bit more of the mountain above/behind the building as that's where my eye ended up, and I wanted to go higher and see more of the scene and the setting. The light on the building is super, as is the wee bit of floaty cloud. Excellent stuff.

Thanks. Here is one with a bit more height to the background ;-)

Apart from being a very nice shot it’s very interesting too and holds the attention whilst ‘taking a journey’ through it and that’s why I prefer the original.

Those are fabulous Rory, very moody and dramatic.

I've been underground quite a few times at Cwmorthin it's as fantastic below ground as well, you image does the location justice a fantastic image.

For those interested in a bit of history about the location...

Thanks for posting the video. I got a cuppa came into the summer house and watched the full length. Really interesting, I was absorbed. I’ve just finished watching it.

The welsh language sounds as though it would be difficult to learn and I kept hearing some words in English..’toilet’ ..‘top‘ ..of the mountain where the planes crashed in WW2.

A friend of my wife’s was brought up in Cardiff and spoke only welsh until she went to school at 5 years old.She still speaks welsh and sings Canon Lan in welsh.

I enjoyed listening to the narrative even though I had to read the translation and hope the language is kept alive. I think it’s important to ensure it doesn’t go the way of some other minority languages.

Hi, Glad you enjoyed the video. There were huge gaps missing on the translation text. I will be up looking for the remains of that hawker Hurricane next week ;-)
