Taken a few weeks ago on an outing with ma bud. We were blessed with lovely evening light and a lovely spot to be at.

I loved the light on this one and I've never seen a damsel on heather before. First shot of the evening too.

A beautiful image, excellent placement of the subject in context too.
Clinically sharp focus.
Use of the light against the darker background gives very good separation also.

Its a male Enellagma cyathigerum (Common blue damselfly). They tend to sit like this with the abdomen angled well away from the substrate. The other genus of blue damselflies, Coenagrion (Azure, Variable, etc damselflies), tend to sit with their bodies flat against the substrate - so posture is often a clue to what you are looking at!
