I loved the whole series but on a photographic level, my mind is blown. The use of subtle tones and contrast is top drawer IMO. Anyone got any tips or insights to general technique? :D

It's so understated but stylish. Is there some cross processing going on? I can't put my finger on it.

It's worth watching just for the art direction, honestly.

I'm missing something here as they do nothing for me.

On the series, I thought the original film was very good. I've seen the clips of the new series and I may be wrong but I'm not going to watch it. Reasons being that from the clips and what I know of the plot from them it looks just what I'd expect it to be, a bit too predictable and modern, as in overly woke, too much fluff and filler and overly styled, too much incredulity. I may be wrong as my opinions are just based on the clips I've seen and good luck to those who like it.

Honestly it's a great watch. Not sure what's woke about it

I don’t understand ‘Woke’ ?

Alan, have watched the intial episodes and have to say, I'm impressed. Worth giving it a chance, before basing judgement, on a few clips.

Those who don't understand woke must have been asleep for years or living in a cave, or just not able to see it because they're in it. In the sense I use it here I did use it as shorthand. I mean it reflects current right on message tropes and fashions which we must not diverge from else we'll be deemed unworthy. These themes are perhaps most common in more modern productions from the Anglosphere and wouldn't be recognisable in those from even just a few short years ago. And then there's the fluff and the style of production. It's just not for me.

All the above are just my views and others are free to have theirs. All I can say is that from the clips I've seen it looks to be exactly what I'd expect it to be and I wont be sitting through it. Good luck to those who will and I hope they enjoy it.

PS.
On the meaning of "Woke" I'd go back to the Afro-American usage and encompassing some luxury views/beliefs and virtue signalling.

Despite the time I spend on here, a lot, I don't have a lot of time for TV and I do have things I prefer to see and those I don't so I try to pick carefully.

I knew what you meant I just didn't wanna call it what it is and get booted off the forum after just coming back.

And woke means to be awakened. Enlightened is my interpretation. Evolved. On an emotional level, to be woke is to not be terrified of difference.

I know what it means in its original usage but I disagree with your interpretation as some aspects of "woke" are IMO not at all enlightened or evolved but damaging, divisive and regressive, the complete opposite of any positive progression and instead promoting divisive and damaging division. I do feel it's been expanded to encompass the possibility of too much virtue signalling and luxury views and the negative effect these things have had on freedoms but perhaps some expansion should in principle be a good thing as in its original use it seemed rather race specific and divisive. IMO it's just gone too far in the wrong direction to the point it's in practice become an often negative force rather than a good one but this is taking the thread in the wrong direction so I'll back out now.
