So having just joined I thought I would throw up my first decent image with my new kit. It was taken a couple of weeks ago and is looking out over the dam wall through the entry where someone rather carelessly graffitied the wall. I liked the natural contrast here.

I made some minor level adjustments to bring out a little of the shadow detail.

Hi Andy, a good shot there, potentially. Personally I think the side walls do not particularly add to the shot, the graffiti and the control box on the left detracts from a great shot. I would crop this to a portrait orientation just after the y in the graffiti on the left.

I actually did a crop like that in LR and debated on which one to put up, as a rule I'm not a huge fan of cropping. I like to do that in the camera.

Which one do you prefer guys?

2nd one. And I would have crouched down a bit as you have the verticals of the doorway converging.
I would also have taken 2 shots using tripod, one exposed for the interior and one for the exterior and done some exposure blending as well

central themes are difficult to master
here you have an interesting left hand wall and a dark uninteresting right hand wall
a crop will put things on a non balanced composition and i think may prove more coherent
cheers
geof
