Sky went crazy, it changed so much over a few minutes it was unreal. More on my flickr, these two are my favourites.

A couple from when we first arrived. No3 is a blend of an ND filter shot for the sea and without the ND filter for the rest of the scene. No4 is a long exposure, something I don't do loads of in bright conditions, but does it work?

Thanks for looking C & C welcome.

That burst of colour is terrific! Warm but nice. I think No1 is my favorite, the slightly darker exposure makes the colours pop even more, especially in the reflection. Very Nice!
Nice pastle colours in 2 but there seems a lot of headroom here doesn't balance quite as well as 1.
No3 cooler, with the light over your shoulder, I like the way the piller's of the groyne are lit up nice lead in. I think it compliments the central composition and balances the image well.
No4 Not sure about the cloud here, mind you this is just a personal thing. I quite like LE then the clouds are flooding in the right direction, i.e.when they seem to be radiating from the focal point, but that's just me. Also not sure the just off centre works for me.
Just the way i'm wired either central or on a third.... Most of the time ;)

Nice set Craig, sky is a bit epic in the first 2, I personally prefer the comp in the second and like the use of space! My eye keeps flitting between the rainbow and the lighthouse in the 2nd, possibly because of the distance between them, feels like the 2 main elements are battling each other.

Thanks for the detailed response Steve. I know what you mean about both points on the fourth image, the best long exposures are streaming towards the camera, I just liked the cloud pattern here. I attach another image for you similar to the second but with less sky!

Thanks Neil, because I value your opinion, do you see this as a good thing or a bad thing in a composition? Or was it just an observation?

Nice compositions. I've wanted to come here a long time but never made it so far.

I think it's one that suits a high tide with the water all the way round the lighthouse

The messy beach elements detract from what could be epic

I agree, as the beach is just mud. This is actually the reason I went for the big sky in the second shot, to lose a lot of that.

The caveat to this is at sunrise low tide with all the colour reflected in the ripple pools on the beach can look nice. I'm pretty sure @tomh1982 has done it.

Yes I have only visited Dovercourt at low tide many times, it's on of my favourite locations. I like the ripples that are in the sand but agree that there are rocks & lumps of mud that are not very desirable. I have a shot where the tide is just high enough to cover all of the objects on the beach but you can see the ripples in the sand under the water, works pretty well imo. I really should try going there at high tide tho, although I haven't managed to get out so far this year with my camera :( nice shots Craig! :) cheers T
