DXO PhotoLab changes colours on loading RAW files.

I've had this issue for a long time with DXO PhotoLab (currently on V5) but hoped that a trial of the latest version (8) might have rectified it - it hasn't.
I have the software set to 'Optical Corrections Only' as I don't want any other corrections made when the RAW image is loaded into PhotoLab, however the software insists on changing the 'colour profile'!

I'm guessing that there is no way around this issue but maybe you have used PhotoLab and overcome it - if so please help!

Oh that doesn’t look good, I’m still using version 5
Haven’t seen that happening but I do notice that the optical correction only option does look a bit flat , I was assuming that was because that is how the Raw is out of the camera but may be wrong
Most of the time I use the default DXO preset to be honest and slightly adjust that , it’s normally not far off
My Camera is a Canon R5 but I’ve used DXO to process images from my old cameras for example 350D with good results, are you on Canon as well ?

It looks quite normal to me. I don't use DXO but LR does the same. Initially you are seeing the baked in jpg which includes whatever profile you have set in camera, then it switches to whatever colour profile your raw editor uses or, I guess, the flat raw file of you are choosing not to apply a colour profile.

That would make sense, I had assumed that loading a RAW file would mean that I would only see the RAW file. :)

You can't see a raw file, as it's just rows rows of numbers, until it's been converted into a picture file (usually some form of jpeg like file)

If you want the preview in DXO to match the embedded preview in the raw file, you can play around with changing the styles in the camera and the camera profiles in DXO (choosing a different default in DXO).

If you want a closer more accurate representation of the actual unprocessed raw data (which gives a very flat, slightly green and dark image) you can import the "linear" profile for you camera (from Adobe) and tell DXO to use it as a default. (I'm on PL6, but I am assuming it’s the same with PL5)

Linear profiles work quite well in LR and C1, but my try out with DXO wasn't very successful, because while it's possible to use a Linear profile with DXO, DXO obviously doesn't know how to work with a Linear profile.

In both LR/ACR and C1, the green cast is corrected, but not in DXO. My preference in LR/ACR and C1 is to use a linear profile as my default, but I struggled with this as a starting point in DXO. Maybe because of my inexperience with DXO. I only use it for lens correction and denoising, round tripping from C1.

If you export a "correction only" DNG from DXO, it doesn't matter what DXO has done to the colour//contrast because the raw processor used to open the DNG, will open it with its own default colour and contrast settings.

When I export a lens corrected and denoised "only" DNG from DXO and open it in C1, the colours/contrast of the DNG exactly matches those found in the original raw file directly opened in C1.

Thanks Graham, I think I am going to have to resign myself to working with what I have. :)

Sorry, I wasn't necessarily suggesting you change anything, but...

I've just had a look (PL6),and under the colour tab, there is a color rendering option, which by default is set to generic. If you click on this and choose "camera", you can scroll down to select your camera and this may make the DXO rendering a bit closer to the JPEG you are getting out of the camera.

Assuming those same options are in PL5

Always happy to consider change Graham :)
I've just checked and my setting is Generic - DXO Ricoh GRiii profile, so I guess I'm there.
