Was there a reason for the mono processing other than you found it more pleasing?
I often think I don't get colours just right and usually experiment with B&W versions. I very rarely go sepia tint though but I was experimenting with LUTs in Photolab and thought it brought out the texture nicely.

The colour version looks like this:

and while nice, I didn't like it as much as the mono.

Good take on the theme if that was in our garden it would have a squirrel hanging off it.

I’d have definitely used the colour version, the bird feeder becomes the focus of attention and also shows the textures of the wood much more. There it is, different folks etc

I like both versions, but would probably have gone with the colour one for the same reason the Allan pointed out.

That's just nuts!!!

Colour for me :)

Thanks all. It takes all sorts I suppose. I'm half tempted to try doing the whole 52 as mono photos

Another vote for colour but as you say it’s just personal preference at end of the day. Whole 52 in mono would be different,

Week 2 - Cold

Continuing the mono theme. I could have gone with the colour version and still been able to claim it was mono given the fog.

Hehe. Defo a little on the misty side. Not the most obvious shot for a fog day. A lot would plump for a graveyard!!!:runaway:
Yeah that would have been nice. But I don't see any daylight hours this time of year as they only exist when I'm in the office. Grabbed this quickly as I was dropping the kids at school this morning. Bring on the lighter evenings!!

Also- I'm gutted the cold theme came out on the Thursday which was the last day we had any real cold icy weather around here.

Lovely composition and a very story telling shot.

Thank you both. Only since you mentioned composition have I now started to wonder if things are too right hand heavy.

Taking nice photos is hard.
There is always something in the way; trees, lamp posts, road signs, pylons, telephone lines.

Ooh! I am immediately thrown back 50 years to "games" at school. I don't care about anyone else, that is a great photo for me, and immediately makes me feel freezing cold. Excellent!

I put games in quotes, because that title might imply they would be fun.

The PE scene in "kes" it reminded me of

Caassssspeerrrr. :)

Very evocative.

As for cropping, My thought process would go like this (not saying you should do any of these, just highlighting the things i would try).

  1. move everything left a tiny bit to the left to get the front posts bang on in the centre - they're a tiny bit off to the right,
  2. move everything left a tiny bit more to the left put the person absolutely centre
  3. GO left even more to put the tree on the right hand third line
  4. put the horizon right through the middle - there might not be enough on the top to avoid losing the top of the posts
  5. put the horizon on the bottom third line - there might not be enough on the bottom to do this without losing the bottom of the tree
  6. square it off and remove the empty space to the left

The rugby pitch pic made me shiver,

A lovely mono-ish shot FWG...
Like Paul above I immediately went back to high school memories but not Rugby...our PE Teacher used to make us play Murder Ball (basically a cross between american football and rugby). Makes me shiver and my nose starts to bleed just thinking about it...

Thanks Kell. Some good ideas to consider.
The rugby pitch pic made me shiver,
It's not ice, but looking at it again, it does me too :)
That works nicely
Thanks Simon

Freezing cold PE lessons we indeed the coldest of times :D

This is much stronger in colour, and more detail comes through, in my eyes. Yes, a person with a cigarette would have been quite an addition

That cigarette idea is great - the shot's lovely without but works be absolutely awesome with it.

Great pice of art. Took some time I bet. I bet it did drag on :p
