Flickr's 2024 year in review (Canon vs Nikon popularity)

One thing that stood out for me was the camera popularity. I had assumed that with a wide range of cameras available there wouldn't have been such concentration in Canon and Nikon but this is (to me) remarkable. Maybe you more experienced photographers expected this though?

What’s most remarkable is how the trusty canon 5d3 is still a workhorse that’s been used by thousands of photographers every day. Just goes to show just how good it was.

Lol, yep, still got mine! Somebody I took some pictures for had a whole bunch of them printed in a1 foam board, and, even though it’s only 22 odd megapixels, the pics still looked razor sharp. Testament to how good that sensor is. It’s only really the level in the viewfinder I occasionally miss when I do pick it up.

It looks a bit less rosy for Nikon if you remove the DSLR (which will be mainly cameras have owned for some time), and look at mirrorless offerings.
Canon are doing well, with 4 models in the top 10 - plenty of existing users, plenty of users buying new models, then Sony with 2 - a decent showing given how far behind they were in market share before bringing out their mirrorless models, but none of the Nikon mirrorless models are in the running - a decent number still using their excellent FF DSLR, but not putting in the volume with their new models.
