When I download updates for my Fuji XT5 or any of my lenses the download opens a a Capture One file, and not the fuji file. I have to uninstall Capture One to be able to open the fuji update file. Any ideas on this.

Change the association for the file extension?

It might sound daft to you, what do you mean by that, Im not the brightest spark when it comes to some files. I have managed to get around it by uninstalling Capture One, but I know it will happen again in the future.

No problem! Here’s a clear step-by-step explanation of how to change the file association so you won’t have to uninstall Capture One every time this happens:

What Does Changing File Association Mean?

When your computer sees a certain file type (like .dat or .bin for Fuji updates), it decides what program to use to open it. If it’s trying to open these files with Capture One (which isn’t correct), you need to tell your computer to stop using Capture One for these files.

Steps to Fix This (For Windows):

1. Find the File: Locate the Fuji update file that is causing the problem.

2. Right-Click: Right-click on the file and select Properties.

3. Look for “Opens With”:

• In the Properties window, you’ll see an “Opens with” section.

• If it says Capture One, click the Change button.

4. Choose a Different Program:

• From the list that appears, choose Notepad or another basic program (this won’t actually open the file but prevents it from using Capture One).

• If Notepad isn’t shown, click More Apps or Browse, then find Notepad.

5. Apply to All Files of This Type:

• Check a box or option (if available) to make this change for all similar files.

• Click OK or Apply to save.

For Mac:

1. Find the File: Locate the Fuji update file on your computer.

2. Right-Click and Get Info:

• Right-click on the file and select Get Info.

3. Change “Open With”:

• In the “Get Info” window, find the “Open with” section.

• Choose TextEdit or another neutral program from the dropdown menu.

4. Apply to All Files:

• Click the Change All button to apply this change for all files with the same extension.

5. Close the window.

Future Downloads

• Once the association is changed, future downloads should no longer default to Capture One.
