I very much like #2, the composition especially, and also the colours and light. FWIW (just a personal taste of course) the DoF is a rather narrow for my taste in #1.

Was the illumination low sun for these?

Yes they were all lit by the low afternoon sun - one of the nicest things about this time of year. Number 3 is a crop of 2. I personally prefer the overall scene of 2, but couldn't resist the crop to highlight detail in the gills.

Thanks. It's just my regular walkaround set up. Nikon D5100 and Sigma 17-70mm. Handheld and no extra lighting.
