Nice colours in the marbles, nicely lined up. Seems just slightly out of focus. Don't think I have ever photographed marbles, I shall have to give it a try.
The peg I really like too, a nice and simple composition with a great reflection.

It was a happy accident with the colours!
The marbles were just green and blue coloured, but I used an orange backdrop, which caused those little orange segments in the glass.
And keep it to yourself, but I used tiny blobs of white 'BlueTac' to hold the marbles in position!
If you look closely, you can just see the edge of some under one of the marbles.
I tried to clone it out, but couldn't in the end....hardly visible though.

Not sure what is out of focus though....I chose the third marble from the right as the point of focus, and although I was at f2.8 I thought it looked quite sharp.
I'll go back and have another look though....I am indeed very overdue for an eye test....my reading glasses may be failing me and I can't get my arms to grow any longer!!

Love the marbles and the depth of field. Did you try it with a background colour that picked up one of the colours in the marbles? Just wondered if that would add or detract from the image!

It's a pain in the proverbials with all these specs all over the place....I've got lookers, readers, see-ers, do-ers and drivers!!
I've been wearing my normal short sighted specs for years, but now I'm having to have two pairs on my face!!

I used to have fun with marbles too as a youngster....brought back some memories.
I lost all mine over the years sadly (pun intended!
)....those in the photo were actually out of a Christmas cracker....not a bad little prize really.Thank you Bob, for looking and for your positive comments.

Yes I did place a coloured background....an orange sheet of card, well spotted!
I had originally just wanted to have a warm glowy reflection of the orange on the black tile where the marbles were placed, but it had the added effect of those little orange segments showing in each marble....wish I could say that I had planned it like this, but it was purely a happy accident!
The marbles themselves were coloured with just blue and green, and I think the little splashes of orange go quite nicely.

You make a good point regarding filling the frame, I was intending to arrange them in different patterns, and perhaps shoot some more closeups.
I only had six marbles however, but when I saw the image, I was quite pleased with how it turned out....so I thought "If it ain't broke...don't fix it!"

, indeed I became all excited when I saw how the background was reflected in the marbles. In fact looking at it again, I have only just noticed that the orange 'segments' are actually the partially obscured background, with the big circular diffuser I was using creating the 'segment' effects.

I did a quick re-shoot, and focus stack, since I hadn't dismantled the setup....it's not perfect, but it's all in focus....kinda!!

I seem to be relying on my shiny black tile for an awful lot of themes lately.
I promise to be more adventurous and maybe even go outside one day!
This is a focus stack of 11 images, with various coloured backdrops behind to give a rainbow effect.

Object: Both are very nice images for the theme. Can’t beat a good marble picture though. plenty of colour and details. Learnt something new about the humble peg though. Never heard them referrred to as C 47’s before though.
Wet: Has to be the first image, some lovely colours there. Never tried stacking better put that on my list to try. Love the abstractness of the image.

Rough-great take on the theme, I really like the composition
Object-The peg is a good shot, butI love the marbles, the colour is great
Wet-I like all of them, but the psychedelic first one is the pick if the bunch. Again, beautiful colours.

Thank you kindly Bob! The 'flower inside a drop' images took ages to set up too....and were ultimately disappointing sadly....just couldn't seem to get the angles right.
I have been well and truly humbled and am in awe of those that create such images! I'll keep practising though!

I only had five coloured sheets for the background....luckily they were all strong colours that covered the main rainbow colours.
I have since bought a few more (today in fact) to fill in the gaps....you can never have too many backgrounds!!

I believe the C-47 nomenclature is derived from the movie industry after World War II.
As I understand, it came from the name of the particularly versatile Douglas C-47 aeroplane, which was also known as the Douglas DC-3 in civilian use.
The name was appropriated for the clothes peg in the film industry in Hollywood, due to it's versatility, since lighting personnel would use it for clipping cables, barn-doors or gels to hot lights. They didn't burn easily or melt so they proved very useful....just like it's namesake, the C-47 aircraft.
It's perhaps an antiquated term these days, and maybe it's only used by American photographers, but I think it's a pretty cool moniker!

I should say that it was your beautiful water drop shot that inspired the rainbow colours!
I tried to achieve it by bouncing light at different angles, but I ended up digging out my coloured cards....worked a treat, so thanks again Lee!

Hi Gareth, two super shots for wet, well done with the focus stacking, an excellent image, very colourful, I thought it might be oil on water which gives a similar effect.
I did some flower reflections for the 2015 52’s, it’s not easy is it and takes a lot of patience, it is very satisfying though when you finally capture one, my record was seven in one pic. I cheated and used a green drinking straw, I found the water drops stayed on their longer The second one is lovely, you’ve really captured the shape of the flower, well done.

Indeed it is difficult....it was my first attempt at a flower reflection in a water drop....and while it didn't go exactly to plan, I feel encouraged to keep trying.
I was inspired by a Canadian macro specialist....Don Komarechka - his images are stunning!
