Such detail as always Nick.

Amazing detail for something so small Nick. (y)

The exif on Flickr says f/45 and 400.mm?

What are you using Nick - the detail is incredible...

Paul

Thanks everyone for the kind and encouraging comments.

Paul, the Exif on Flickr is correct. I am using a Sony A7sii with a 100mm Laowa 2X macro lens and two 2X teleconverters. The Laowa is infinity focus to 2X magnification, f/2.8 to f/22, which with the two teleconverters becomes infinity focus to 8X magnification, 400mm, f/11 to f/90. The magnification was probably around 6X, which would make the effective f-number around f/112 (which would be around f/70 on APS-C). With apertures this small it needs some fairly muscular post processing because out of the camera the images are very soft indeed.

This is the setup I was testing, which proved to have problematic hotspots around the lens that I couldn't see how to get rid of.

I've reverted to an earlier design, but with a 12 inch bowl like the above rather than the 10 inch bowl I was using previously, and a slightly less bodged construction than with the 10 inch bowl.
