Greater Spotted Woodpecker - Male, Female & Fledgling

After getting the Green Woodpecker and the weather turning we decided to head out of town and visit the Greater Spotted Woodpeckers & see if the young had fledged. They had....well like Springwatch only two for the moment. Well what we could see

Also to show the difference between sexes and young

Male - with red on back of head

Female - missing red on head

Fledged young - with red on top & to front of head

That's a great set of photos, Martin.

However, I've gone off GSW's. They broke into my nestbox and killed one of my baby blue tits. I've got a photo of one caught in the act with blood all over its beak
