100% coincidentally, I'm pretty sure that Mrs Nod had a close relative of those for her lunch today. The 'shrooms were batter coated but definitely trumpet shaped - and delicious!
 
Yet one of the most toxic varieties looks similar to the common white mushroom.
 
So, how were they? Obviously not (immediately...) fatal!

I have not died. That or you can get broadband in the afterlife!

As for edibility, they have a fairly strong flavour similar to Portobello shrooms but are much tougher/chewy.

My guess is they would be best served coarsely chopped, flash fried and served with scrambled eggs on granary toast coupled with a sprinkling of coarse ground pepper and sea salt.
