Evening all

I currently only have a 70-200 f4 and fancy getting a 18-55 just so that i can shoot cars easily in the paddock instead of shooting from miles back. Also to be able to get more in the frame for on track shots. If anyone has any shot with the lens how did you find it and i would be very grateful to see some piccies as well.

Many thanks
Dex

i havent shot track action with that lens, but when i first started out i used that on a 350d for all my static car shots etc. couple of my older ones on flickr are off that combo :)

Thanks, theres some briliant car shots on your flickr.

Not using a Canon but I have used 18-55mm Nikon 18-55mm kit lens. It's do-able but you will need to do a fair bit of cropping, depending on how close you can get to the track etc.

All the the ones on my flickr are with the kit lens:

Thanks for that, im not to fussed about cropping, well not at the moment im not, might change when i get the lens but i want to be able to get more in the frame than just car shots.

Used to shoot car statics and close ups on an 18-55 mkii usm, its much better than some give it credit for, and has excellent iq :) some examples on my Flickr I think :)

Hi

Yes used 18-55 in past, use 17-85 on occasions now. Great for the paddock (unless you can get very close, then an UWA is best) and I've had some great shots on track with it. Doesn't focus as quickly as an L lens, so you need to take this into account, but can be good fun trying to get a shot

It's a decent lens to be honest. I mainly use mine for shooting static cars and doing slow pans, like this at 1/15th..

Thanks for the pics David, love that ferrari and the ducati shot.

I used my 18-55 at Silverstone last year, it was ok but I would of preferred a 70-300 (which I do now own)

However on tracks where you can get closer, it would be so bad.

Here's 2 from Silverstone though with the 18-55

Thanks Luke, absolutely love this pic.

Don't know my flickr off the top of my head but linked from www.rpic.co.uk :)

Thanks for that will have a look through later

Motorsport doesn't have to be all telephoto lenses, I quite like this one with my 17-40 on the old snetterton layout.
