After being inspired by a link posted... I made myself a ring flash adapter for my Jessops 300AFD...

A bad shot taken with the Z2 in poor lighting with the popup flash... of the adapter.

I know it's not going to be as good as a proper ring flash, and none of my test images are great... I was in a hurry to grab something so I could attach the camera to my scopes for some astro photography ;) and I was getting very strange looks from the OH walking around with a large thing attached to the camera... These were all shot handheld 1/100, F14 @ ISO 100 with the 55-250 and Raynox. This gives me hope for bugs... as the year moves on.

4) This was shot with very little additional light, just enough to allow me to see the peg through the view finder. The background is rubbish... :D

Considering that the tubes are made from cardboard that was going in the bin, lined with white paper, the ring is the top of a CD spindle, also lined with white paper, and the main sticking mechanism is duck tape.. all in cost probably about £1 I think the results are pretty good. What do you think ?

Not sure if this should be here or in Macro... as it's about a flash thingy for macro I decided here... Mods, if it's in the wrong place... if you wouldn't mind thanks...

Nice touch mate! It does a good job!

btw, what focal length do you use with the Raynox?

I think the queen needs a make over she's looking a bit beaten up these days...

Cheers Andy, I keep the fl for the raynox above 100mm. At 100mm, I get about 1:1.

Onform, you're right :D

Tack sharp images though...well done.

Thanks,.

Excellent. I've borrowed Alby's Raynox, which I'm using on a Sigma 70-210 F3.5-4.5 and it's very tricky!

Isn't it just. Good luck Andy, you'll get the trick of it.

nice images, and flash mod no.3 came out nicely

Thanks, I couldn't find the original post that linked to the mods, but thanks whoever it was for posting it.

What is the hole in the back of the ring adapter thingy for.?

That's for the lens. I'll post a shot later with it in situ. I can't upload any at the mo as I'm on a mobile device.

Ok np:)(y)

The penny dropped.

I'm planning on picking up a 300afd for my 450d tomorrow, I think I'll have a go at making one of these.

It looks simple enough.:):woot:

If I can make one :D...

Made one & took this with it.
