Wow! There were quite a few of these about when we were on hols in France last year (feels like a lifetime ago ATM) and I never fancied getting anywhere near this close!

Superb images Alby.
For me, the Hornet is top of the food chain...its like a Wasp on Steroids!
Late in the year, I used to visit a local church, in the grounds, on an Ivy clump, I would watch up to 5 Hornets "search an destroy" any insect they could find.
Im pretty sure a nest was nearby...You have to watch yourself when you get close to these beasts too, I reckon they could pack a serious "punch".
