Bees have antennae and different shaped eyes as do wasps and ants thet are all hymenoptera

Yes it is a hoverfly of the genus Eristalis. Can't really be sure of the species from just this shot (a head on shot might confirm it!), but I think there is a good chance it is E. arbustorum. The stigma (dark brownish mark on the front-edge of the wing) doesn't have very sharp edges (so its not E. nemorum) and the hind basitarsus looks quite swollen - thicker than the end of the hind tibia. The other thing we can say is that it is a female - the eyes are well separated on the top of the head. It would be useful to post it on the British Hoverflies facebook page to get some more opinions.
