How to compare Full Frame and Crop Lens View Angle

Hi all - first post so be gentle. ?
I have moved from a Nikon D5300 (Crop) to Sony A7 iii Full Frame. I used a Tamron 11-16 DX on the Nikon and want the same sort of angle of view on the Sony

Question is do I need to do any calculations on the numbers ?

As the Tamron 11-16 has a 'DX' rating on the lens is this actually a 11-16 view angle and so I need to look for 11-16 on the Full Frame ?

Or - The Nikon had a crop Sensor 1.5, So actually I was getting approx 16 - 24 ? So a Sony 16-35 is a reasonable replacement ?

Yup.

The "crop factor" is x1.5 for just about everyone making APS-C apart from Canon which at least at one time was x1.6, so you're bang on with your calculations there.

DX lenses aren't really made for FF Sensors, (the "lens" image area will only cover the DX size dimensions on the FF sensor), but of course you can shoot the FF camera in DX mode but even so you may still get some vignetting.

So the images you get from the FF body with be the same as you would get from your DX Nikon, if you use a DX lens ........... AFAIK

If it helps, draw a rectangle on a piece of paper and mark this as 36 on the long side and 24 on the short. This represents full frame.

Now draw a second rectangle inside the first and mark the long side 25 and the short side 16.7. This represents APS. You can see the difference between the two.

The focal lengths marked on lenses are the "real" figures, regardless of the sensor the lens is used with. Hence an 11~16mm lens is the same whatever camera you use it on. However going back to our drawing, more of the image can be recorded on the bigger sensor.

There is, of course, a "but". Any lens projects only a limited part of the scene in front of it onto the sensor. A lens intended to be used with an APS format camera will not project as much of the scene onto the sensor as a lens intended for full frame use.

In effect then, the APS sensor cuts a 25 x 16.7mm section out of the image that the full frame sensor would show.

Just to be clear, the OP should be looking at a 16-24mm to get the same FoV as 11-16mm on APS-C.
Thanks Appreciated, looking at the options I had I was shooting more around the open end of the 11-16 so when looking for a replacement I wanted to get the low end correct at the 16mm starting point was the import part, the Sony 12-24 F2.8 is a bit of a lump and fairly expensive, the 16-35 F4 gives me the additional scope to 35mm but don't get the F2.8 but F4 should cover most things so will give that a go. Thanks for the guidance.
