Ilford HP5 portrait

I love HP5. There's just something so timeless about the look.,

Being new to film I just randomly picked one whose price seemed ok. The hi res scans are showing quite a lot of grain actually. Is it the usual case?
That does look to have more apparent grain than you would hope for with HP5 at 400.
Grain will be more apparent with thin, under exposed or under developed negatives or it could be in the scan and subsequent digital processing, how do the negatives look?

I never understood after "taking a break." That's not a break. 1/2 an hour is a break. It's not just you but there are a lot of users here who say that and it boggles my mind on the faulty logic of the wording, not the user.

Fun image. But where's the rest of the images?

I am yet to get the negatives from the developing shop. Will look up those and check again.

Wow indeed you are correct! Thank you for pointing that out!

They are there but this was one of the better compositions. I will post the others shortly after resizing them.

HP5 was my normal everyday film in my press days, often shoot 15 or 20 rolls a day. You could push it if the light was bad, and you could pull it to lower the contrast on bright sunny days. Smashing stuff,

Late to reply but in my experience, it varies quite considerably with the developer used.

The lab I used had a variant of Rodinal, and when I first started developing I didn't like my HP5 negs at all. When I started chopping and changing developers to see how it affected film, I was quite surprised. HP5 in DDX is beautiful, in Rodinal it looks horrible, and in HC-110 it looks "crunchy". I posted about it a while ago (link)
