For a while now I have been wondering whether my Panasonic FZ330 bridge camera is working properly, or whether it is giving me images that are a bit soft. I went out in the garden yesterday to give it another go. I was also testing an adjusted diffusion setup for my Venus Optics KX800 flash that has one less diffusion layer than I have been using for quite a while now (3 layers rather than 4). The amount of illumination from the 4-layer arrangement has always been borderline problematic, and it is good that the 3-layer version gives me a stop or so stronger illumination, but I have been uncertain as to whether it is giving me worse highlight hotspots than the 4-layer version. I hoped to get some insight into that too.
Here are 16 of the 39 images I kept from the test session. There are 1300 pixel high versions in this album at Flickr.
Some of the images were captured using a Raynox 150 close-up lens, the rest with a Raynox 250. All used an aperture of f/45 full frame equivalent. The raw files were processed with, in this order, DXO Photolab, Silkypix, Lightroom and Topaz DeNoise AI. #2 had a round trip from Lightroom to Photoshop and back. #8 was processed in Topaz Sharpen AI before being passed to DeNoise AI.

#8 There is not much in focus in this one, but for some reason I quite like the look of it anyway; not sure why.
