Mixed Bugs

A good variety indeed Icy, and lots to like. For me, especially #7, #8 (lovely pose), #9 (if that was like the ones I see, you needed to be quick with that one, and it could have been quite small too), #13(Tetragnatha? - I would have liked to have seen the rest of its legs though), #14 ! (Excellent), #15, #16.

You've mentioned issues with your flash, but the flash highlights (I'm assuming you used flash) seem quite subdued to me apart from on reflective surfaces like in #11 and #16, and even there they look quite small to me. Have you posted a picture of your flash arrangement anywhere? I'd like to see what your setup looks like.

Composition-wise, to me they all look rather similarly cropped - quite tight and rather central. Nothing wrong with that of course as it gives us a good look at the subject in every case. but a bit of variety with some closer in, further out and some decentred views might be worth exploring. Do you usually shoot with the subject framed centrally, and as close as you can get while having all of it in the frame?

Thanks Nick:) Ya, I was happy to see all those bugs:D

Lighting issue - normally it happens on small objects, as I have to cropped a lot and increased exposure in LR. I think it is more on me that when to +/- EV. I am using a YN565EX, put a universal softbox and a piece of packaging form wraps around it with an elastic band.

Regarding composition, thanks for the advice:) I tend to crop them the way as you said and something it is boring. To be honest, I usually shoot them whatever angle I can get at that moment and not deliberately framed centrally. I would be happy to get a clear in focus shots that allows me to see the bugs properly, then I worry the composition later:p but it is something I would like to improve and explore too.

Here is my flash set-up
