Took a trip to Musselburgh Harbour this morning - was very cold, but such a lovely morning!!

I'm still very new to landscapes, but would appreciate any critique on my favourite selection of the bunch - any comments what I could do to improve them?

3: This one really needs some subject to focus on - it's very plain - but there wasn't anything around that I could use! But apart from that, I like it :)

I think that they are all really nice shots, really beautiful colours. The boat images, maybe you could try focusing on one or two boats rather than a group of them, too many can be a little distracting.

Hope that helps

Thanks very much for your comment, and for the advice. I did take one shot of a close up with 2 of the boats - this one here:

that's a nice shot, you are getting more of a focus point. Try playing around with angles as well, I always find that helpful when I find something I want to shoot.

I bet it was bloody cold there in the morning!!

Thank you :)

I do struggle to get creative when it comes to angles and composition - I kind of like things to be centred!!! :wacky:

It wasn't actually too bad this morning! Got all wrapped up thinking it would be freezing, but it was warmer than I thought, so made the morning all the more pleasant :)

I love Musselburgh (for the snowball shop) - always get the other half to bring me some back, when he's up that way !!

lovely pics - it could be the summer !

Snowball shop?? What is it and where is it? lol I've never heard of it before - but I'm liking the sound of it :D For me it's best for Lucas and the racecourse! :)

Thank you :) Was a lovely morning!

I'll ask the other half - I just can't remember the name, but it's a bakery / cake shop.

The snowballs are huge & the nicest !!!

Stacy - sorry - finally remembered to ask.

It's Luca's ice cream shop, in High Street.

Enjoy !!

2nd & 4th work well , enough to retain interest, although I'd be tempted to crop to just above the sand in the second.

Generally, keep an eye on your horizons, first image looks like a ski slope :)

Also, most landscapes look better if there is a 60/40 0r 40/60 split between land/sky rather than a 50/50 split you have here, so I would suggest you crop the sky in 1/3/4 to achieve this.

Could I also suggest you have a look at this tutorial by one of our experienced members, in which he explains the 'rule of thirds' in composition. While I'm aware a number of photographers dismiss (wrongly IMO) this approach to composition, most experienced landscape photographers tend to use it to some degree or another.

Saying all that, I do like where you are going with these, you are getting a lot of things right, probably just need a tune up on how you 'see' a scene :)

Memories. Lived in Muss for three years, lived next to racecourse so good to see the horses parading down the road
