night sky pictures

i have a canon t5 rebel with a 50mm lens & im going to the griffth observatory tonight to take pictures of the stars/night sky , i went last night but had alot of trouble focusing on the stars. any tips on how my settings should be? & how to focus my lens to see the stars?

Manual focus is best i.e. switch off AF, probably best to set it just a tad back from infinity and check on Live View (if yours has Live View).

Zoom in using LiveView on a bright star and manually focus on that.
