Thanks Chris, yep interesting critters, the 'larval' stage is a ground dwelling predator, like an Ant Lion, this is one that has just emerged as an adult hence the pale colours they 'hawk' for insects like Dragonflys, we do get quite a lot around us here in S. France - there are a few variants but this is the most common
