Plumbing advice

Yes
My toilets have been weird lately, not flushing properly acting blocked but clearing with an extra flush, so I thought its just extra traffic on the mains with all the schools off

As far as I know no ones put anything down the loo you shouldn't like baby wipes, Lego etc :D

So today it's as bad and I'm doing my chores with the tv on really loud, and I hear a glugging and assume its the tv, so tonight the washers going (as usual and as earlier) and the toilets rhythmically glugging to the spin on the washer :puke:

So do I need to call out dyno rod ? Or will the glugging which I've never heard before have sorted it out, btw it smells like the stacks gone in the toliet but there's no pipe like that in the toliet, hopefully tomorrow it will smell like roses but at the minute it's less than pleasant

Congratulations if you'd read this far, what should I do?

had something like this once, ended up with contects of the sewer all over the floor call a plumber or some such, in our case the main had become blocked and everything got backed up and up through the loo it came and out of the foul drain in the garden. ours too made the same noise when the washing machine was on.

This is what I'm going to do, unfortunately I think it might be Tuesday when I can get someone in, I've locked the toliet dr, to stop the visitors, it still smelling so I figured it's blocked somewhere regardless of what dh says

Thank you for confirming I need to get someone in, :) least I know I'm not wasting anyone's time

first thing you need to do is lift off your septic man hole cover / covers and check they aren't blocked
only unpleasant if they are blocked though
best get on the case ASAP as it can only get worse and you might find yourself in the pooh
limit your usage I'm sure you don't need to flush every time nor does the washing machine need to be on at the moment
it could be quite simple it could also be serious and costly
it it's your drains on your property you foot the bill if it is the mains the water board will sort you out for free

Buckets of hot water can usually help clear blockages.
We were getting blockages a few years back. Turned out that when the flanges around the inspection covers outside had cracked and broken up, local council did the repair work as they are out the front in the street, their workmen had thrown the old debris down the hole and caused the blockage so they got the bill.
It's worth finding out if any of your neighbours have a similar problem. If there is a blockage "downstream", everyone upstream, down to whoever has the actual blockage, shares the cost and you can usually claim off your house insurance.

Wow I read your thread, my house is only three years old so thankfully there won't be so much backed up, but I fear your right about whats blocking it, it will be baby wipes or the like

Not every street has seperate foul and storm sewers. I've never lived on a street that did.

First step, lift the lids on the drains and see what the problem is. If there's fresh backing up then the drains will need to be rodded or flushed. A set of drain rods isn't too expensive and rodding drains isn't a technical job.

If the blockage is below the street line then the water provider is responsible, and recently the point at which the water supplier becomes responsible for the drains moved closer to your house than it used to be.

The drains should cope all year, regardless of school holidays.

Alastair the pic I posted was for example only and the guys house is 3 year sold so will definitely be separate
road storm drains are separate to foul drains
your domestic drainage system is very dependant on property age location and the builder of the property
and like you said a set of rods is not expensive hell your neighbours have probably got a set they will lend you so get rodding and enjoy lol

Often the water companies will unblock on your property drains for free anyway. Worth calling them. Sewage is a health hazard so you don't want it making a re-appearance.

Hot water down the kitchen sink for a whie with some soda crystals might help unclog things a bit too.

There's nothing quite like the smell of fresh before breakfast..

.. I don't suppose the OP has a brick-weave driveway? That was the cause of most of my drain-related problems.
