I discovered this morning that this image was the winner of the night sky category of the Nature TTL Photographer of the Year competition! I was especially pleased because it was also shortlisted for the Natural Landscape Photography Awards and yesterday I found out that it hadn't progressed further.

Congratulations Justin!
an excellent photograph and well deserved.

No light pollution at the horizon, clear dark sky, exotic trees, couldn't have been your local patch :ROFLMAO:

Cool, congratulations :)

Lovely photo, I like the processing of the Milky Way which is done very tastefully.

It really is, I wish we'd had a bit more time there than a quick afternoon as we passed by one our way down to Fish River
We spent two nights there on a tour I ran early this year, I'm lucky enough to be doing another tour there in 2026... can't wait.

I haven't been to Fish River Canyon though, was it good?

Amazing - I'd love to go back, I could have spent way more time in each location with my camera.

Fish River was stunning, but it is bloody miles from anywhere - it took another 3/4 hours from the quiver tree forest to get there (mainly because it was our first time on gravel roads), i'd go back and spend longer there as 2 nights was not enough for the distance travelled, and we opted not to walk down into the canyon (needs permit, like most things) as we were shattered. It was pretty at the fish river canyon lodge, and great for milkyway shots too
