Hi,

Just about to book the tickets for the spring airshow for the family (and hoping it doesn't get rained off) , was wondering what lens is best. Is the 55-250mm ok or would I be better off hiring a 100-400?

If you can, get the 100-400.. its a great and versatile lens.. you'll need the reach too.. those pesky plains dont come as close as i like!!

I agree with Fraggle you`ll wan`t the 100-400 as the extra reach will prove priceless....I can`t see the airshow getting rained off......even if the weather is poor they normally try their hardest to get something up (you should be guaranteed a typhoon....I saw one at Leuchars in crappy conditions last year). They also have all the air and land museums that you can visit.

Well, I've got the 100-400 now so will see how it goes. I'm expecting the first few shots to be of the odd plane nose, a wing tip here, tail there until I get used to the weight of it and get the tracking spot on :)

I live and work just a few miles from Duxford and few times this week we have had various aircraft overhead, but as of now there is low cloud cover and the forecast is not too good! I hope the forecasters have got it wrong, looking forward to seeing some good shots on TP early next week

yeah unfortunately the forecast is light rain for Sunday :( I think last year it wasn't too good either? I missed that one in the hope of going this time round.

The weather's looking pretty good so far, so I'll be there :)

The 100-400 would be a better bet.

If its your first time, head crowd right towards the "tank bank", the planes fly in and out from here, and you can shoot them on the turn. Also, if you go right up by the campervans, they are very close. You can get away with not going more than 300mm.
Dean:)

I am affraid I disagree with Dean about getting away with 300mm a couple of years ago I used a Canon 500mm and still could of done with a bit more

not saying you wont get some shots that you will like... but Longer the better for duxford, plus its not helping if the sun shines !!!

but looking at the forecast I doubt that the sun will be the problem

still a really good day out for the family, enjoy and dont for get to post your pics here

cheers Chris
