Saltburn Pier At Night

Went to one of the few old piers left in the North East a couple of nights ago to see if I could capture a pier sunset but failed dismally

Was about to leave when they switched the pier lights on so thought I'd have a bash at low light photography and bagged these

Nick, I really like those and I may just pay a visit sometime. Did you need a filter at all?

Andy, no filters used.

The reason I failed on the pier sunset was because I was messing around with my new 10 stop which was massive overkill for the low light conditions and by the time I'd finished experimenting with it and longish exposures (up to 5 minutes) the sun had vanished!:bonk:

The shots posted were taken just after sunset and I was shooting 30 second exposures, they have had very little pp as I wanted to get them up to see if anyone had any pointers (y)

Thanks for the info Nick. How on earth did you manage to get hold of a 10 stop, they're as rare as Hen's teeth aren't they? :)

I got the Pro Stop one fairly quickly but if you're talking about Lee then yes forget about getting one soon :shake:

Great stuff Nick.....went to Saltburn a month back and found the pier quite amusing as the tide must have been fully out and it just seemed to end half way towards to sea, looks totally different with the tide in, hopefully going back to Runswick in a weeks time, can see an evening trip to Saltburn coming on!

I really like the third one. The second one is off symmetry but the composition doesn't hold for me. I like one but I'd liked to have seen one in the pier too.

Just after sunset you get great colours and suspect you'd have pulled off something great on the pier

Great shots! I think #2 could have been my stand out one if there was less empty space on the left ? Perhaps a crop would sort this out removing the top and left of the image bringing the end of the pier closer to the top left third ? I dunno

But at least you came away with some nice images at the end of the day!

Cheers for the comments guys

It's great for a beginner like me to get such positive and constructive feedback
