One from my local meadow. Not quite sure which species. Taken in the East Midlands, roughly about 1.5cm in size.

Yep, I`d agree with you "Skipper" it is.
 
A nice shot Des ... looking at it I think it's a Small Skipper (Thymelicus sylvestris), but it's difficult to make out as it's virtually identical to the Essex Skipper (Thymelicus lineola). The only way to tell them apart is by the colour of the underside of the antennae the Small Skippers being brown/orange and the Essex a glossy black. The Essex has also more pointed wings than the Small ... hope that helps
