I read somewhere that the simpler the car is, the more enjoyable the road trips are. To validate this me and my friends went on a 200 kms excursion over the weekend to one of the camping spots near my place in my 2004 Maruti Suzuki 800.
We loaded up the tiny vehicle with a large icebox (with 12 beer cans) that took half of the back seat and a large water container that sat in the footwell of the front passenger seat. Then went in the barbeque equipment and other assorted camping stuff.
On the return journey since it was a bit warm and this particular model does not have air-conditioner we were forced to half at some of the shades for a quick refresh. Here in this particular instance my friend found an excuse to open one of the left over beer cans while the other one refreshed himself after puking from car sickness.
The lack of a music system means that you talk more than just listening to songs, whereas with no air conditioning you open up the windows which lets in more fresh air.
Best of friends, tiny car, no air conditioner, no music system, no real electronics or GPS navigation, but the best of memories.
