A friend is sponsoring a car/driver in the Blancpain Endurance Series and has offered me a VIP ticket (with full pit lane access) to take some pictures.

Never taken motorsports shots before, so any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

A. Don't get run over (seriously)
B. Just enjoy it
C. Can I come with you?

I very much doubt you will have full pit lane access on a VIP ticket as the pit lane is a place of work and a pretty dangerous one at that so the last thing the organisers want is members of the public, brimmed full of hospitality booze wondering around the place.

It sounds to me like the most you will be able to do is stand in the garage but even then don't get in the way of the pit crew who will be less then polite if you do.

So from that vantage point you might get a few pics of the pit stop. Your other option is to wonder around the circuit getting some pics from where ever you can however I would recommend a minimum of a 300mm lens. There is actually a very good guide somewhere around here for shooting from the public areas at Silverstone, I'll see if I can find it later.

If you've never shot motorsports before then your best option would be to enjoy the hospitality and recommend to your friend that he speaks to a professional with years of experience and the £5million PLI all circuits demand for working trackside then neither of you will be disapointed. Feel free to PM me any time. :D

Thanks for the advice and I think it is the pit walk and paddock. Not sure I'd fancy being in the pit lane with cars flying in and out, especially after a drink or two :D

Be yourself. Don't act like a photographer. Act like a fan and you will see some fantastic pictures. :)
